Product Usage Information

Select the appropriate product type below and follow the recommended preparation, application and drying instructions.

WOOD FINISHING

Filler Stain

  1. Make sure the surface is stripped and clean.
  2. Thin stain 20%–30% with turpentine, to the consistency of varnish.
  3. Apply to the surface, brushing with the grain.
  4. Allow to set for 5 minutes — not until completely dry — then wipe off cross-grain with a clean, lint-free rag until a clean look is achieved.
  5. Allow to dry for 12 hours before applying sealer coats.

WOOD FINISHING

Clear Sealer

  1. Apply 4–5 coats of sealer using a quality bristle brush or polyfoam brush.
  2. Each sealer coat will dry for recoat in approximately 2 hours.
  3. Allow the final coat of sealer to dry for 12 hours.
  4. Sand the sealer with 320-grit sandpaper. The sealer will sand easily and powder to a very smooth base for applying Spar Varnish.
  5. If additional coats or a deeper look are desired, repeat the sealer process.

CLEAR FINISH

Spar Varnish

  1. Apply 4–5 coats of Spar Varnish with a quality bristle or polyfoam brush, allowing 6–12 hours of dry time between coats.
  2. Sand lightly between coats with 320-grit sandpaper.
  3. Varnish may be thinned 10%–20% with VM&P Naphtha for improved application due to climate conditions or personal preference.

BELOW WATERLINE

Bottom Paint

  1. Thoroughly sand the previous finish.
  2. Completely wipe down the surface with lacquer thinner.
  3. Apply 2 coats.
  4. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours.

TOPSIDE FINISH

Marine Enamels

  1. Thoroughly sand the previous finish.
  2. Completely wipe down the surface with lacquer thinner for surface preparation.
  3. Thin enamel 10%–15% with VM&P Naphtha.
  4. Apply 2 coats (recommended).
  5. Allow to dry for 24 hours and cure for 48 hours under standard weather conditions of 50°F–70°F.

BILGE COATING

Bilge Paints

  1. Thoroughly sand the previous finish.
  2. Completely wipe down the surface with lacquer thinner for surface preparation.
  3. Apply at least 1 coat.
  4. Allow to dry for 12 hours.

SPECIALTY COATING

Camo Paint

  1. Thoroughly sand the previous finish.
  2. Completely wipe down the surface with lacquer thinner.
  3. Apply 2 coats.
  4. Allow to dry and cure for 24 hours.
Thinner None required
